Museums
Fort Sumter-
www.nps.gov/fosu
You will need
to reach Fort Sumter by boat. There are two different locations from
which you can board the ferry. One ferry leaves from Mt. Pleasant at Patriots Point
Naval and Maritime Museum. And the other ferry leaves from the Charleston
Aquarium Wharf. Fort Sumter's Visitor Education Center is where you will
learn all about the first shots of the Civil War. Did you know that
after 33 hours of confederate bombardment, no one on either side had been
killed or seriously wounded?

Charleston SC
Plantations-
Charleston, South Carolina was the South’s first major commercial district.
The Charleston harbor was a busy place shipping
textiles overseas during the antebellum era of 1800-1860.
The wealthy class mainly consisting of Plantation owners and commercial
business owners built these magnificent antebellum plantations. The
below links are to some of Charleston SC best Plantation web sites.

Boone Hall Plantation-

Boone Hall Plantation is where you will find a breathtaking drive through
the canopy of live oaks which lead you to the plantation mansion. This
experience is once in a life time. The original owner and family would
really be proud of their vision in designing such a spectacular entrance
which is pictured in the Hollywood movie “Gone with Wind”. Besides the
canopy of Live Oaks, this plantation gives you the best representation of
slave quarters during the antebellum era.

Charleston SC Aquarium Wharf District-
The Charleston SC Aquarium Warf is a fun spot for adults and children.
The Warf is located in downtown Charleston SC right along side the
Charleston Harbor near the corners of Calhoun and East Bay streets.
You might be tempted to run through Fountain Park with the children during
one of the many Charleston hot summer days to find some relief and cool off
right before eating an ice cream and enjoying the wonderful Charleston
Harbor view. The American Military Museum and Imax Theater are also
located here at the Charleston SC Aquarium Warf.
Charleston SC Aquarium-
www.scaquarium.org
The Charleston, SC Aquarium opened its doors back in 2000. This new “state
of the art” aquarium is called home to more than 10,000 animals. Families
visiting the aquarium can buy yearly passes in order to take advantage of
some of the aquarium's ongoing and ever changing animal exhibits. The
aquarium is always working hard to add new attractions like the secrets of
the Amazon. This exhibit shows off the small yet dangerous poisonous frogs
as well as the huge reptiles. You will never get tired of visiting the
Charleston SC Aquarium exhibits especially if you like marine life. The
South Carolina Aquarium also provides local marine animals safety and care
while they recover from recent injuries. You will often times read
that Aquarium staff are nursing loggerhead turtles back to health after
recent injury caused by boat propellers or fishing nets.
