Spoleto Festival- http://www.spoletousa.org
Charleston's Spoleto Festival 2005 runs from May27 - June12.  This arts festival attracts world class opera, dance, theater, music, artist and sculptures.  Out of town visitors plan their trips to the festival years in advance.  This makes finding hotel reservation a difficult task should you decide to make a spontaneous trip to Charleston during this 17 day event.

Cooper River Bridge Run- http://www.bridgerun.com
The "last" Cooper River Bridge Run was sold out with over 42,000 runners participating.  It was truly amazing to see so many runners turn out and begin the event in such poor weather conditions.  The weather, however, did cooperate and started improving right at the start of the race time.  Each runner was assigned a number and given a commemorative race chip.  This race chip was laced onto the runner's shoe and was theirs to keep.  The commemorative, Cooper River Bridge Run,  race chip transponder was activated when the runner crossed the starting line and then deactivated at the finish line.  This computer chip was used to keep track of the runner's time and is now a small part of history.

Summerville Flower Festival- http://www.flowertownfestival.com
The Summerville Flower Town Festival is growing larger each year.  There were approximately 225,000 people in attendance in 2005.  This festival is fun for people of all ages.  You will find more than 200 local vendors selling their arts and crafts.  This is a great place to Christmas shop or find the perfect lowcountry painting for your new home.  You will also enjoy great food from local area restaurant owners and music by the area's finest bands.

Blessing of the Fleet http://www.townofmountpleasant.com
The Blessing of the Fleet is held at Mt. Pleasant's, Alhambra Hall, which is located in the Old Village.  At the festival, you will find Shem creek's commercial shrimp boats and crews parading by for the annual blessing.  The blessing is for safety while out at sea and for a bountiful harvest.  The boats are decorated and pass by the local clergy while everyone prays for their safety.

Sullivan's Island Oyster Festival- http://www.sullivansisland-sc.com
The Sullivan's Island Fire and Rescue department holds its annual oyster roast on the first Saturday in November.  This oyster roast is my favorite and it supports such a great cause the Sullivan's Island Fire and Rescue.  You will find plenty of food and fun even if you don't like to eat oysters.

Family Circle Cup Tennis- http://www.familycirclecup.com
The Daniel Island Family Circle Cup Tennis facility is host to America's oldest all-women's professional tier one tennis tournament event.  This week long event is very family oriented and is held during the month of April.  The Family Circle Cup event always attracts plenty of the top women's tennis professionals from all over the world.  I would image the 1.3 million dollars in prize money might be a good enough reason for them to accept the tournament's invitation to attend.  The 10,200 seat stadium court provides everyone in attendance a great venue for watching the best women's tennis.  The week long event brings over 100,000 spectators to cheer some of the world's finest women's tennis professionals.

IOP Connector Run- http://www.iopconnectorrun.com
The IOP connector run and walk for a child is held on the first Saturday in October.  This 5K run/walk continues to grow and gain momentum from local sponsors and participants.  The Isle of Palms and Mt. Pleasant exchange clubs are the organizers of the event and they donate 100% of the net proceeds from the run/walk to the local prevention of child abuse and other child related programs
