Charleston
Market- The pavilions
located at the corner of Meeting and Market Streets were built during the early
1800’s. These pavilions rented for $1.00 to $2.00 per day and were the
premier location for vendors selling their meats, poultry, seafood and
vegetables. The original pavilions remain intact today as they were
two hundred years ago. Although now you will find local crafts people selling goods like...sweet grass
baskets, local artwork, books, scented perfumes, soaps, jewelry, hats,
clothing and many other souvenir ideas to take back home with you to
remember your trip to Charleston. |
Downtown Charleston-
King Street offers Charleston area residents and visitors an array of store
fronts to
shop. You can select to shop the more traditional stores like Saks
Fifth Avenue, Talbot’s, Pottery Barn and Brooks Brothers or take the more
eclectic approach by shopping Art Galleries, Antiques Shops and
Boutiques. The King Street store fronts present such a friendly
shopping experience even the non-shoppers like me are impressed with the
overall
shopping experience and variety of stores. |
Charleston Antique Dealers-
The entire Historic Downtown Charleston area offers magnificent collections
of English, European, Caribbean and lowcountry antiques. You will
certainly be sure to find an antique dealer offering the perfect piece for your personal
collection. The majority of Charleston Antique Dealers are located on King
Street. The city of Charleston is also always conducting different types of
symposiums, seminars or informal educational presentations held throughout
the city. The College of Charleston’s School of the Arts holds an
annual event each spring titled the “Charleston Antique Symposium”. http://www.cofc.edu/sota/symposium.
This five day event provides informative lectures from the world’s best
scholars, curators and connoisseurs. |
Charleston Art Galleries-
The entire Historic Downtown Charleston area features local, regional and
national artists collections.. You will find several Charleston Art Galleries grouped
together on Church and King Streets. The Charleston area Art Galleries will
feature
masterworks of many different eras and styles. The City of Charleston
is always offering art exhibits, symposiums and educational seminars for you
to attend. The Charleston Fine Art Dealers’ Association holds an
annual event each fall titled the “Charleston Fine Art Annual”. This
event offers you the unique opportunity to meet the artist and discuss
